... of the trade!
Now, I know this shouldn't matter but ... yesterday I bought a nice new striped, spiral-bound notebook, and a set of gel pens. Ten gel pens to be precise, in assorted colours (including yellow!).
Nice stationery DOES help you write better!
Inspired by entries on various other people's blogs, I'm also experimenting with writing in different locations. Today I tried my local pub - I was only drinking coke honest. And it works! I wrote a first draft of a story, just like that. In purple gel pen as it happens.

I'm a stationery addict! Love those gel pens.
Yay. Well done! Writing in a different location really can help. If you've got nothing else apart from a notepad and pen you HAVE to write or just stare into space and have people stare back at you wondering why you're just sitting there doing nothing!
I'm going to try writing in different locations next week ... I'm starting with different rooms in the house, away from my pc.
Your new stationary sounds very very lovely.

Ooh, I bought a new notebook today, too. It's amazing what an uplifting effect a new piece of stationery can have.
The pub, eh? Now that would be too much of a distraction for me!
perhaps it shouldn't matter, but it does you good so you should do it :-))
although i prefer to type on a computer, i love good paper, my fountain pen for short bits of writing and good quality colour pencils for whatever... it's the little things in life that make it worthwhile, eh?
different places, different inspirations... aren't we people funny creatures really :-))
keep well...
Yvonne - I know it's sad, but I feel the need to use a different coloured pen for each story I write!
Calistro - that is so true!
Caroline - there is definitely something about being away from the pc for a bit that helps.
Maddie - yes, the pub was potentially distracting, but I just set myself a time limit and got on with it.
Bart - yes, life is a strange thing, but sometimes the things that cheer it up are so simple ...
Anything to get one writing...lol
Best wishes
Annie
Stationery does matter Helen. Very much!
Every story a different colour. I love that:-)
Annie - exactly!
Lane - I fondly think it will make each story distinctive!
I love the sound of the gel pens. I believe that gorgeous stationery is most inspiring.
Well done for the short story.
I love gel pens, they glide really well.
I tried writing in a cafe a couple of days ago, funnily enough, and it was so blooming noisy I didn't get anything done at all!
Of course it matters! (And the simplest pleasures in life are always the best.) Your new book and pens sound gorgeous and am glad trying new places to write is working for you ... well done for the story!
:o)
I've recently bought an old blue typewriter and when I get stuck typing on my computer I switch to that. It seems to help.
Debs - you realy need to get yourself some gel pens!
Karen - I find a bit of noise helps. Shutting it out helps me concentrate if that makes sense.
Moondreamer - they are gorgeous, and really helping.
Jenn - I haven't used a typewriter for years. What a great idea though.
