The Reading ...

... Corner ...

Last week I had to turn part of my front living room into an office area so that I can work from home. While I was doing that, I thought it would be a nice idea to have an area set aside just for reading, and for storing the tbr pile and unread magazines rather than leaving them all over the house.

And I wondered, fellow bloggers ...

Where do you read?

Do you read different things in different places?

Do you need music or silence?

Do you need snacks, and if so what?

(Don't forget, you can still vote for Jacob's new name.)

What a lovely idea to have a reading corner. I don't particularly have a place where I read and I can read in most situations. Hmmm, snaking sounds good - popcorn I'd say, tasty and won't mark the pages with goo!

Ooh, interesting one.

Where do you read?
Anywhere I have a spare 5 minutes! Mainly in the bath or in bed, but it's wherever I happen to be when I have time to kill and nothing else that I should be getting on with to fill it.

Do you read different things in different places?

No. I'm as likely to be reading a book on wildlife crime in the bath as I am a novel. And yes, I do read library books in the bath - fingers crossed no accidents yet in 20 years!

Do you need music or silence?

It doesn't matter. If there's music on I won't hear it.

Do you need snacks, and if so what?

No, snacks are a very bad idea for me! Given that I'll quite often stay in the bath for two hours and finish a short-ish novel in one go, the amount of food I'd consume per book would be astronomical! If it's a really hot bath I'll sometimes take a pint of orange juice or water in with me though.

I read all sorts of things, but I suppose my favourite genres are Thrillers, Crime and SF. I usually read in my armchair, or in bed. Oh, and whenever I'm on a train. I don't use music, unless there would otherwise be total silence. I can't deal with total silence: too much anticipation of when the next noise will occur. As for snacks, I'm partial to a Marmite sandwich. Or perhaps a lime pickle one.

Looks like such a pacific reading corner (I am imagine falling asleep there already!)...I read anywhere and anyhow but lying down on my bed is best (although I fall asleep there too)...Reading and sleeping means I can't do too much eating but I DO like to eat while I read (sweets for example!). I don't mind noise but NOT TV on in the same room and children talking at me preferibly! ;)

I love your reading corner.

I tend to mostly read in the bath, and can spend at least an hour wallowing if left to. Sometimes I read in bed and will read whilst sunbathing.

I don't eat when reading, usually, and like it to be quiet, which is probably why I like the bath so much.

I love your Reading Corner, Helen.
I read magazines or a non-library book at mealtimes - husband reads, too, so if it's bad-mannered we're bad-mannered together.
I also read in bed, it's usually a book then (and chocolate). If there's something on TV Peter's watching and I'm not, I'll read then; so don't need silence to lose myself in a story.

Yvonne - ooh yes, popcorn - good choice of snack!

Caroline - if you're going to read library books in the bath, then staying away from snacks is probably a good plan for lots of reasons x

Captain - your thoughts on reading are very interesting, your thoughts on snacks are, however, just plain wrong! Perhaps I can interest you in a mushy pea sandwich?

Pacha - reading and sleeping ... and eating sweets all sound like a good plan.

Debs - another 'in the bath' reader. I never attempt that, I'm way too clumsy.

Pat - chocolate, also a good choice!

I want to use your reading corner, it's lovely :o)

I mostly read in bed - generally Sunday mornings and sometimes before I go to sleep at night so there's no food or music involved then, but coffee and a bacon sandwich if it's a Sunday morning! I can read anywhere though, and don't mind if there's background noise.

What a lovely restful looking reading corner.

My favourite place to read is in bed/on the bed/leaning against the bed. Basically anywhere near bed because it's well away from the general hub bub. No music. Just me and the words. I like to have a few Chocolate Digestives on hand too:-)

what a lovely idea, a little spot just for reading and nothing else :-)

i prefer complete silence around me when i want to read, i'm distracted easily and probably the only place i can do so is sitting on the edge of my bed of an evening nowadays, door shut, ear plugs in :P

keep well ;-)

How lovely - a place just for reading. We used to have a reading corner at school.

I have to have silence to read - and an cluttered mind - so never then!:-)) When I'm on holiday I get through book after book. But my pace slows down once home - when I tend to read in bed before I go to sleep.

I can read anywhere with any background unlike writing where there has to be silence.

I can read and, unfortunately, eat and at the same time. Think they call it multi tasking or talc marking if I drink too.
