I received a review copy of 'Death Of A Ladies Man' by Alan Bissett today, from those nice people at Hachette Scotland.
I'm looking forward to reading it and will review it for Bookersatz when I have. Speaking of Bookersatz, I posted a new review yesterday, so please do pop over and have a look.
Well, I knew my good run was due to come to an end, but today I got six rejections! Six!
I'm particularly sad about one of them as it was written for someone special and he probably won't get to see it now. Sigh.
I'm off to lie down in a darkened room.
Welcome To My Blog
We'll be talking about ... writing, and how it's not as easy as it looks ... reading, and how it would be easier if there were more hours in the day ... my four cats and how cute they are (apart from when they bring disgusting things into the house) ... anything else I think is worth a mention.
Please feel free to join in.

Can you resubmit that special story elsewhere? Online perhaps? Or put it on a website yourself, at least then it can be read.

Ahhh, bugger. I'm sorry to hear that. Big hugs in the meantime.
six rejections in one day? ouch! sorry to hear that :(
and what cathy said. there must be somewhere else to try....
Six is tough:-( Get them out again asap.
Bigs hugs m'dear. xx
6 in one day? Thats a bit harsh! Put them in a pile, mix them up (keeping the individual sotries together of course) and send them back out in another order to the same 6 places? :) Oh and as for the someone special? Why not get it printed on beautiful paper and nicely bound send the story direct?
That's the downfall of writing isn't it? But six is a bit cruel. Get your stories back out there, missy!
Hugs x
I completely agree with what everyone else has said....get them back out there!!
C x
Ps. I love DJ's suggestion about binding it and sending it to the person...that would be an amazing gift to receive :-)
Ouch! Six, all at once is pretty painful to say the very least.
Big hugs. x
Ah, sh-t. It seems endless sometimes, doesn't it? Does it make it any better to be reminded that we're all in this together, and all go through it time and again? Probably not, but anyway, as Lane said - get them out again asap. Sending hugs xo
Sorry to hear that, Helen.
Just think of JK Rowling, how many rejections did she get? Can't remember but it was even more that me! And even I got there in the end, and so will you.
Did the rejections contain any useful feedback, or was it just "no thanks"? In any case, the best thing to do is to polish them a bit more and get them back out there. Good luck.
Six in a day is very tough, Helen, but unfortunately it does happen. Years ago, I had one point when I blitzed loads of publications and got so many rejections, that I decided to paper the bathroom with them. (I was in a bedsit.) But my landlady at the time did not think this was funny and decided that I was unstable and should take a psychological test her daughter had produced for the Maudsley hospital. Which for a laugh I did. And failed. At which point the other tenants started locking their doors and I left before I was sectioned. Probably served me right.
None of which of course makes you feel any better about it. (Sorry).
It's all so subjective. You just have to get the stories out to somewhere else.
And put the rejection slips in the cat litter tray, that might help.
OK, Helen. Today was the day I promised myself I'd get to the post office and put a copy of Cut Short in the post to you - and it's still sitting on my desk in an envelope addressed to you... My excuse this time? At 1.00 I was interviewed by Jason Harrold on BBC Radio Somerset about my book signing in Bath on Saturday 18th. I then discovered - after searching in vain for a while - that the programme was broadcast from 2pm - 5pm. Since 2pm I've been sitting by my computer listening to Jason Harrold, waiting for my 5 minutes (yes, 5 minutes!) of fame, in case the interview is broadcast. Lots of interesting items but nothing from me yet... I suspect I may have fallen off the scheduling but will sit here listening until 5pm just in case. Missing the post office again... So tomorrow morning, without fail, I'll be out and about, delivering posters to a library (need to be there this week) and GOING TO THE POST OFFICE!
That's rotten, Helen.
Hugs.

Cathy – yes, I think there is another market – have to be patient.
JJ – hugs much needed.
B – it was very ouch
Lane – I’m getting there with resubbing.
DJ – that’s a lovely idea
Amanda – six is very cruel! Why do we do it?
Carol – if all else fails, I will
Debs – I think they were saving them up
Sue – yes it does help, thanks x
Kath – an occupational hazard!
Claire – yes, it’s a long road sometimes
Captain – they all had reasons – so yes, once I get over sulking that’s useful.
Joe – I used to keep all my rejections but I gave up when they started taking over the house!
Leigh – I look forward to reading it – it has arrived!
Suzanne- thanks, my dear.
Sorry about the rejections. I always look at querying/submitting as finding the "soul mate" for the particular project, and sometimes you have to date around a bit.
You'll find the right home for it.
Feel better soon.
Oh bum and bugger. So sorry.
